On an interference engine, a snapped timing belt or stretched chain can destroy the motor. We replace belts, chains, tensioners, and water pumps on schedule so your import does not become a very expensive lesson.
Timing service replaces the belt or chain that keeps the crankshaft and camshafts in sync, along with the tensioners, guides, idlers, and usually the water pump that share the job. Setting the timing marks correctly is precise work. A tooth off can mean a no-start or worse.
Most import engines are interference designs, meaning if the belt breaks or the chain jumps, the pistons hit the valves and the engine is ruined. Replacing the belt or worn chain components on schedule is cheap insurance against a four- or five-figure engine repair.
Replace a timing belt at the mileage in your service schedule, no exceptions. For chains, come in if you hear a rattle on cold start, get a timing-related code, or are buying a high-mileage import and want it checked before something lets go.
